Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about our checkride study guides. No fluff.
How is this different from the MEI Lesson Plans?
The Study Guide helps you practice answering oral questions. The Lesson Plans help you organize and present lessons.
Work through the Study Guide to test your understanding and identify subjects you need to review. Use our editable MEI Lesson Plans to prepare the material you will teach. They support different parts of your preparation, but lesson plans are purchased separately and are not included with this guide.
I already have the Multi-Engine Checkride Study Guide. How is this different?
The Multi-Engine Checkride Study Guide is for pilots preparing for their multi-engine rating. The MEI Checkride Study Guide focuses on preparing to become a multi-engine instructor. Some technical knowledge overlaps, but the purpose of your preparation changes.
The MEI guide includes instructor-focused questions, for example, how you would coach a student through an engine-out approach or recognize and correct their mistakes. Use it to practice explaining concepts as an instructor, not just answering as a pilot.
Does it cover Vmc, the critical engine, and single-engine performance?
Yes! The guide covers Vmc factors, critical-engine concepts, and one-engine-inoperative (OEI) performance, including questions about climb capability, ceilings, aircraft configuration, and directional control.
It also includes engine-failure-on-takeoff scenarios that connect performance planning with decision-making. Work through what you would do, why, and how you would explain that reasoning to a student, rather than simply memorizing an acronym or definition.
Will this help me understand multi-engine endorsements and instructor responsibilities?
Yes! The guide includes endorsement and logbook scenarios, such as adding a multi-engine rating, authorizing solo flight before the pilot holds that rating, preparing for a retest, and reviewing instructor recordkeeping and flight-review questions.
Does this follow the MEI ACS, and will I receive updates?
Yes! The guide is organized around the applicable Flight Instructor Airplane ACS topics, with codes included for reference. Updated versions are emailed to you when revisions are released. Keep the newest copy and use it alongside current FAA references.
What’s included, and how do I receive it?
You’ll receive two PDFs—a questions-only version and a separate answer key—plus a guided study plan. The material includes scenario practice, common checkride weak spots, and a breakdown of your MEI checkride preparation.
This is a digital download, not a physical book. Access is delivered electronically after successful payment. Save your files so you can study on your computer, tablet, or phone using a compatible PDF reader.
Who created this study guide?
