What’s included in the CFII Lesson Plans?
You’ll receive editable PDF lesson plans for instrument instruction and Fundamentals of Instructing (FOI), plus interactive student questions, worksheets with answers, and PowerPoint versions of selected lessons. The material includes explanations and real-world IFR scenarios to help you teach, not just read through information.
Are these for my CFII checkride or for teaching instrument students?
Both! Use them to build your lesson plans for your CFII checkride, and then as a reference when working with instrument students. They’re a starting point to personalize, not a script to memorize.
Who created the lesson plans?
Ava (@pilot.avabelle), a current airline pilot and E175 simulator instructor with Boeing 737 and Embraer 175/190 type ratings, created these lesson plans.
Previously, Ava served as a lead flight instructor and check airman at the University of North Dakota (UND), where she administered 100+ certificate-granting checkrides and personally trained 40+ students with a 100% oral checkride pass rate.
Her experience teaching, evaluating, and flying professionally shapes these lesson plans, helping you explain concepts clearly, connect them to real-world flying, and teach with confidence.
What’s the difference between the CFII Lesson Plans and the CFII Checkride Study Guide?
The lesson plans help you prepare what you’ll teach. The CFII Checkride Study Guide helps you practice the questions you’ll be asked, using mock oral-style questions and a separate answer key. They support different parts of your preparation and are sold separately—the study guide is not included with these lesson plans but can be bundled automatically if added to the cart!
Can I customize the lesson plans?
Yes! The PDFs are editable, so you can add examples, adjust explanations, and tailor aircraft-specific information to your airplane. Make the lessons your own, then practice teaching them in your own words.
Are the lesson plans PTS-aligned, and will I receive updates?
Yes. The CFII lesson plans are PTS-aligned, and updates are included. Updated versions are emailed to customers when revisions are released.
Does this purchase include CFI and MEI lesson plans?
